suriname caricom food bank

The primary objective of CARIBFB is disaster preparedness and response. In the event of natural disasters—particularly hurricanes, which frequently impact the Caribbean region—the program ensures rapid access to emergency food reserves and medical supplies for affected islands.

Suriname is uniquely positioned to host this facility. Located outside the Atlantic hurricane belt, the country offers a stable and secure environment for long-term food storage and logistics. In addition, Suriname has significant available land and agricultural capacity, allowing for the expansion of food production to support both the CARICOM region and domestic food security needs.

Food Safety and Security Program developed

CARIBFB is a regional Food Safety and Security Program developed specifically for the CARICOM island nations. The program is based in Suriname, South America, and is designed to provide all CARICOM member states with a secure, centralized location for the storage of food and essential medical supplies.
